How to Estimate Straight Rebar Weight
A common theoretical mass approximation for round steel rebar uses the nominal diameter in millimeters and length in meters.
Mass (kg) ≈ [diameter (mm)]² ÷ 162 × length (m) × count
Worked example
Ten straight bars, each 6 m long with a nominal diameter of 16 mm, have an estimated mass of 16² ÷ 162 × 6 × 10 ≈ 94.81 kg.
Important limitations
This is a theoretical estimate. Actual mass depends on product tolerances and applicable specifications. Bent bars, hooks, lap splices, cut loss, and waste must be handled separately. Never infer structural adequacy from weight alone.
